MSCM-320 Visual Communication: Print
Conducted and reviewed the principles and practices of design and layout for magazines, newspapers, and other mass media. Included an introduction to printing processes, typography, and the graphic arts. I designed and produced a magazine, advertisement series, created multiple magazine and newspaper layouts, produced various cover pages and was educated in the use of multiple computer programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
Magazine Design
I am the proud designer and producer of POW Mag, an alpine skiing magazine. The magazine is a model; I did not write the text for the bulk of the articles. Nor did I shoot the photos. I designed every other aspect of the magazine, such as the graphics, layout, color schemes, logos, titles, sub-titles, the advertisements, and specifically chose the articles and photos to fit in with my over-arching concept. The objective of the assignment was to create a magazine layout based around a topic of interest.
Advertisement Series
The goal of the advertisement series was to create a company and produce advertisements for it. I created ruffpuff donuts & coffee, a Portland-based coffee shop. I designed every aspect of the advertisements. I attempted to combine efficiency of broadcasting information with a flowing aesthetic appeal of the graphic designs.
